Batting Cage for Mira Bay

Good Morning Mira Bay,

Pitchers and Catchers report next week, so what better time than to bring up a Batting Cage for Mira Bay.  I was approached about this a couple months ago for the Baseball  and Softball players so I looked into the feasibility.  The district lawyers chimed in and sent this to me:

“The CDD can legally provide a batting cage without a pitching machine. If the CDD provides it or allows it to be provided on CDD property, the CDD should properly maintain it and should include appropriate warning signage.  You will probably want to adopt some policies on usage to be included.”

I looked into a couple options, there is a pro version w/heavy duty netting that I purchased in the past for a High School team, it worked out well, but it was behind a structure that protected it from wind.  I felt this was an OK version but realized we probably need to beef up the supports as the Mira Bay location will be exposed to winds. The other version I am working with is using our own structure made of schedule 40 pipe and anchoring it properly for something that will last years and years.  (Same type we used for the basketball court fence).  I am going to propose to the board next meeting to take this up.  I am including the diagram I drew up, a rough cost sheet, plus the Netting and L-screen I will recommend for you to look at here.  There will have to be some sort of aggregate base put down adding some cost but should be minimal.

So I ask the community as a whole.  If we can get a long lasting heavy duty batting cage installed for approx $2.5-$3K;  would that be acceptable?
