“I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty, and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full victory.”
– Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower, June 6, 1944.
On D-Day, Allied troops landed on the beaches code-named Omaha, Utah, Juno, Sword and Gold, carried by 7,000 boats. On that single day, 4,414 Allied soldiers lost their lives, 2,501 of them Americans. More than 5,000 were wounded. Try to put yourself in their place, Could we be as heroic as these people?
Today June 6th, we honor the men who bravely landed on the beaches of Normandy ready to stare down evil and put their lives on the line to protect our freedom. May we always remember their sacrifices on this day.
