Two-Four-Five

2-4-5 !!

The Mira Bay Board of Supervisors, in a vote of 4-0, approved the contract for the new wall in substantial form last night.

The expected entire cost For Phase I, II & III is ~$8.121 Million dollars.

That translate to $245 per linear foot!!!

This is a cost saving of approximately $17 million of the next lowest bidder and $25 million of the cost of the Option 3 seawalls already in place.

It has always been my belief that if we did a Design Build RFP we would get many bids and options in the competitive market to have a lower cost fix for our seawall.  However the process definitely did not go as one would expect, but it still ended up working because this one company we have now hired saw the design build of the RFP out on the street and threw their hat into the ring by merely giving out their business card that ended up in our District Engineers hands.

It was great for the community that the entire board came together on this, we all asked many pertinent questions, dug into the details…..Yes; there was high skepticism that it could be done so inexpensively, so we even took the step of asking for all the material costs from this contractor and passed them onto another independent engineer to corroborate the numbers: the result came back within a few dollars.

Next step:

Substantial form?

Dock Solutions lawyer now has to go over the documents, and if there are little to no changes then the document can be signed by both parties, if there are some changes the CDD lawyers feel we need to discuss; then we already took the step of continuing last night’s meeting on May 3rd just in case.
