Some of the minutes concerning seawall financing from the July 13th meeting the CDD Management sent to all board members:
– Seawall financing update: The current litigation, (this is the only holdup according to the CDD attorney), has a motion to dismiss which will be heard on July 31. If that motion passes, the District can pursue financing. If not, the Board would like to look at alternative options.
Concerning the Alternative options I brought up were: The possibility of going to other government agencies in Florida to see if their is any financing for our issue, thus my questions were:
- Some time ago I worked with the Norfolk group to bring the MLB Montreal Expos to Norfolk. The group actually petitioned the state (Virginia) and it was worked out that each and every dime of taxes that was assessed to anything on the baseball team, that money went immediately to pay down the bonds on the new ball park, it was approved, could we not do something like that here for the seawall?
- Since this is a storm water management system, does the water not come from hwy 41 as well? if so; then the State of Florida could be petitioned to contribute to the repair costs of the storm water management system?
- Talking with realtors here: They feel if MB prices go down, all of Apollo Beach goes down, thus then the tax revenues (for Hillsborough County) technically go down, thus they would lose the money anyway. Could we not petition Hillsborough County for a tax reprieve of some sort, a percentage of all taxes collected in MB go back towards the bond pay off to the new wall?
I was informed by the CDD lawyer that these may be a long process and may not be viable , however from these questions he came up with other similar options that he was aware we may be able to pursue.
So with support from the entire board: The CDD lawyers will research options for grants from state and county government for our storm water management system.
