4 New possible Seawall solutions ~ all at lower cost

So despite the best efforts to derail this meeting tonite, yep it happened again. SMH…

A simple question to whom is trying to derail this, why don’t you want to know we have better cost effective options? Do we not want to keep our costs down for all our residents? I urge you to help bring this community back together and do what is right in the long run, IE keeping our costs down, we are all neighbors and we are all in this together.

Nope….Langan did not show up even though Foundation Masters showed us all tonight that they answered all their questions and then some.

Well…. it is too bad they missed out, we were able to have a constructive well presented meeting which resulted in not 1 but 4 new possible options to fix the seawall. The costs are on a sliding scale depending on our needs and budget  and  they all costing less than Option 3.  Keep in mind we still do not know the true cost of rip-rap for the initial cost and the ongoing costs associated with that, however a “like”kind rip-rap solution” cost is less than the last known rip-rap cost.

we have the 3 FM designs

S2 – a like kind rip-rap design prelim seawall-S2

s3 – a like kind rip-rap design that addresses piping and short sheeting  prelim seawall-S3  and this is a scaleable design, meaning if the wall actually fails behind this fix, this design can be added onto without having to remove is, unlike rip-rap which would have to be removed

and

S4 – a like kind option 3 design where new wall is required  prelim seawall-S4 (1)

Foundation Masters went into great detail of how they all work and included all their drainage requirements. They gave us ball park pricing for each option, and their engineering is included in their pricing, unlike our current situation where the fix is one price with engineering added on, they are all less cost than what we are paying now by a long shot,  oh…and they will be able to meet any safety factor that is required.

OK the 4th fix,  we had yet another firm that showed up to help Mira bay tonight, they have been out and about in our community inspecting our walls.

Truline;  represented by a marine construction contractor, Mr. Blake Wishart.   Mr Wishart has worked on many seawall construction in and throughout Florida, he was here to tell us about our current vinyl wall situation and was also here to critique FM designs.  He also presented a 4th option seen in this video here :  https://youtu.be/8-A5tGQmfO0   and there website here: https://truline.us/

We finished up the meeting doing a peer review on the Langan RFQ for rip-rap, both FM and Truline weighed in on the proper way to install rip-rap and went through all the pros and cons, we will have that review later.

All residents  were able to ask any questions for as long as it took , there was great dialog, many outstanding questions were raised, and all those concerns were addressed and answered with good engineering fact based answers.  The engineering nuances were discussed down to each detail for all 3 of FM designs. this is what this meeting was intended to do for all the engineers originally invited to attend.

Synopsis:

We have 4 new options to meet our budget that all remove the rip-rap with its unfunded liabilites of the 2nd and 3rd order issues.

The like kind rip-rap options, s-2 & S-3 are superior in design, one is even scaleable (S3) and both are at less cost, hopefully the board will heed these designs and lower costs on May 18th.
